Virtual Interactive Environments and Visualization

The VieViz group conducts research into the areas of Virtual Environments (VEs) and Visualization. The former concerns itself with the creation of virtual worlds that users can immerse theselves in, allowing representation and interaction in a highly realistic manner. The latter provides an intuitive front end for data visualization in which users can view, manipulate and recalculate data sets from within the 3D world.

The centre owns and has access to a variety of Virtual Reality (VR) Systems including

  • Fully immersive ReaCTor CAVE-like system
  • CyViz 3D powerwall
  • Portable environment
  • Head Mounted Displays (HMD)
  • Stereo desktops
  • Augumented Reality (AR)
These are driven by a variety of software both off-the-shelf (e.g. Performer), and developed in-house (e.g. VieGen).
