Abstract:
ECS has a leading role in the international e-Science and e-Research scene, from participation in the original UK e-Science Pilot projects through to the Open Middleware Infrastructure Institute, e-Research South and the “Science 2.0” movement. We pioneered the Semantic Grid initiative and the use of Web 2.0 in e-Research, and our cross-disciplinary activities range from chemistry and geography to social science, music and now neuroscience. After recent moves the ECS e-Research projects are now largely based in IAM. This talk will provide an introduction to e-research, an overview of the IAM e-Research activities and announce three new projects, with a view to increasing awareness and fostering new collaborations within the research group and more broadly across ECS.
The Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia (IAM) Group is a broad-based, multi- and inter-disciplinary group that focuses on the design and application of computing systems for complex information and knowledge processing tasks. With around 120 researchers, it is one of the larger research groups in the School of Electronics and Computer Science.
