Abstract:
The EU FP6 SORMA project is aimed at developing methods and tools for efficient market-based allocation of resources, using a self-organising resource management system and market-driven models, supported by extensions to existing grid infrastructure. Unlike traditional grid environments, jobs submitted to SORMA are matched with available resources according to the economic preferences of both resource providers/consumers, and the current market conditions. In SORMA, an Economically Enhanced Resource Manager (EERM) exists at each resource provider’s site, and acts as a centralised resource allocator in order to orchestrate business goals and resource requirements in order to achieve maximum economic profit and resource utilization.
